The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
