The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the individual that teachers desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy led the administration to suspend refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she planned to visit his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” he addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
