The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
