Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
