Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
List of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
