A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
